The cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe risks becoming a full-blown disaster in a country already in the throes of economic and political crisis.

The latest figures from the UN suggest nearly 600 have died already, with another 12,000 infected, but Zimbabwean human rights groups say the death toll is much higher.

Channel 4 News has been told by a Zimbabwean government source there are as many as 800 dead in just one province.

The outbreak is overwhelming the health services of neighbouring South Africa, which is struggling to cope with refugees seeking medical attention.

Channel 4 News has been travelling in the border areas between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

In Beitbridge, a major crossing point, there is evidence that the cholera outbreak in spreading into the South African province of Limpopo.
